Quick & painless Guide to Mafia Wars for Farmers
This short guide was made possible by SavannaM and LovesPink. Their kindness took me completely by surprise and made me want to do something nice as well.
There are 3 requirements for getting hot rod vehicles that involve Mafia Wars:
* Level 10 in MW for the tractor
* Level 15 AND(!) having gained 5 levels in MW for the seeder
* Level 18 AND having been to Bangkok (in Mafia Wars, that is) for the harvester
There can be substantial delay until FarmVille recognizes that the requirements had been fulfilled. Some users experience a delay of up to days. Try to log out of FB, clear your Browser-cache and re-login. Sometimes this helps.
The Hot Rod Harvester IS CURRENTLY ONLY AVAILABLE TO A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF PLAYERS! If you don’t see it in the market, doing the required things in MW will NOT make it magically appear.
If Mafia Wars is not working, please try to check if you have blocked the application. To check and if necessary unblock follow these steps in Facebook:
“Account” menu: Privacy -> Applications and Websites -> blocked applications -> Edit blocked applications
The Game:
In MW you basically do jobs to get XP. Every job requires a certain amount of energy to do. Your energy recovers slowly over time or completely on level up. Every time you level up you get 5 skill points which you can distribute between your attributes (health, stamina, energy, attack and defense)
Pointers for doing this quick and painlessly (Note: This is purely from the “get-the-vehicle point of view. Don’t tell me something like “that is not good advice because it will be bad when they are level 200+”)
Distributing skill points:
Every time you level up you get 5 skill points. To distribute these, click on the number in brackets next to the word “Profile” in the tabs (top third of the screen, right side).
Here is the probably most important thing of the entire exercise:
Put everything in Energy!! Forget everything else.
Choosing your character type:
Once you hit level 9 you will be asked what type of character you want to play. The difference is (at least in this case) marginal. I advise “Maniac” since these recover energy fastest.
Doing jobs:
At the beginning all jobs have a 1XP for 1 Energy ratio. As soon as they become available, always do jobs that have the best XP/Energy ratio. For example in the first stage (called “tier”) there is a job that gives you 8XP for 6 Energy, which is much better than the job that gives you 2XP for 2 Energy.
Keep an eye out for Jobs called “Jewelry Store Job” and “Bank Heist” which are in the second stage/tier. As soon as these become available for you, stick with these. The Jewelery Store job has the best XP/Energy ratio (except for Boss jobs, more about that in a minute) but requires some expensive equipment, do the Bank Heist until you can afford it.
Get as close to the next level as possible (like, 1XP until next level) and then do the “best” job you can do with the energy you have left. (XP spills over to the next level, energy doesn’t)
If they are available, you can do the boss fights that are available at each tier. Be sure you have at least 5 Health kits. You will find health kits while doing jobs. Since your stats will only be good in energy you should: Attack – Use Health Kit – Attack – rinse and repeat. The Health kit (and possibly other things) will automatically show up in the boss fight window if you have them. The first time you do a boss fight, the XP/Energy ratio is 2/1 which is very good. Try to do boss fights if you are very very close to the next level (see above).
On level up, again, put all your skill points in Energy.
If you are ever stuck in the middle of a level with no energy left and you don’t want to wait for it to refill, there are two ways to get your energy back to full: Ask somebody in your Mafia (your “Neighbors”) to send you an energy pack (can be done every 23 hours) or you use the so called Godfather points (“Mafia Wars Cash” – you get 1 each level up and 20 at the beginning. Don’t keep them, nothing worth buying for you, so put them in energy refills if you need one).
There is also the MW-Toolbar, which CAN give you an energy bonus several times a day. I personally do not recommend installing it though because it IS notoriously difficult to get rid of.
Various tips:
Top Mafia
If you know people who are very high level MW players ask them (nicely) to be in their Mafia and if they accept put them in your so called “Top Mafia”. Your top mafia can be found under “My Mafia” (in the tabs) and then again “My Mafia” on the right side menu. If you put the right people in your top mafia it will make jobs cheaper and get you more experience. What you are looking for is very high level players as “Wheelman” and “Mastermind” but be aware that not every type of character can be promoted to every position (for example the “Wheelman” can only be a fearless character type)
It is also helpful if you can find somebody who is willing to take you in their top mafia – but don’t get your hopes up. If – and only if – you know somebody who is willing, choose “fearless” instead of “maniac” as character type.
Fights
You can try to fight in MW Click on “Fight” in the menu bar and pick on somebody who has a SMALLER mafia than you. If there is nobody like that you can refresh the fight page until there is. It costs 1 Stamina each time you fight and will give you some XP (1-6), but I don’t consider it necessary to go there if you only want to get to lvl 18. Stay away from the hit-list. Don’t sucker-punch people, it’s considered a sign of helplessness.
Money
My personal advice is to spend your money as soon as you earn it. If you leave it lying around you may loose some of it when you are attacked. You can bank your money (“bank” button directly above your cash display) but as soon as you own equipment it will cost you money to upkeep it and this will be deducted from you bank account unless you offset this with properties… and I’m not going there. Again, just spend it on the things you need. Don’t worry about upkeep, if you don’t have money nobody can take it away. Your spending priority should be: Motorcycle (Bank Heist Job) – 3 Tommy guns – armored sedan (Jewelry Store job) – the items you need to do the jobs where you find the special items required for Bangkok.
Additional XP
At the moment you can send and receive special gifts similar to what FV was doing on Valentines and Christmas. Friends have to “ask you for gifts” and after that you can “send a gift” in your request page. You can do this 5 times a day and it will give you a small amount of XP each time.
Going to Bangkok
To travel to Bangkok, you need to find three items and a passport. You can only play Bangkok when you are level 18+ but you can take a peek before that. Simply click on “Travel” (top of the page) and select Bangkok and the page will tell you what you need and which jobs you have to do to find these items.
The three items you need to find are:
Triad Coin – Located in the NYC Soldier Tier
Yakuza Sake – Located in the NYC Hitman Tier
Thai Note – Located in the NYC Enforcer Tier
Look for the little golden elephant icon in the reward description of the jobs to find the correct job. Be aware that it can take as little as one and as much as hundreds of tries to get the item.
Getting a passport
Once you have all three items there are 3 ways to get a passport: In the Bangkok Home screen is a Button that leads you to three options: a) See the clerk to get a free passport (success is random but you can do this once a day), b) pay 30 GF points and c) ask your friends via a post on their feed (you can skip this if you don’t want to litter other people walls and just ask them personally). If you really can’t seem to get you hands on a passport, there are MW players who have offered to hand out passports in this thread. You can also add me and I will send you one.
You will know when somebody sent you a passport, there will be an immediate pop-up when you open Mafia Wars.
Note: You can yourself give away Passports if you have more than one. If people send you more than you need you can redistribute these for example within your family (real and virtual).
Take the 10 minutes to let the game guide you through the first steps. Read the pop-ups and instructions. Don’t get frustrated
Back in FarmVille: It can take a while until your FarmVille notices that you did, in fact, level up and have the requirements fulfilled. For my seeder it took about an hour after leveling before I could buy it.

lol tis the only reason I started a MW.. I have on on myspace.. LVL 300 something.. it got boring after awhile..
did I get it right, getting the bangkok items is only possible from the elephant-iconed jobs, and having completed them is no guarantee of getting the loot?
u have to repeat the job until you get the one you want .. after that find the other job with the elephant icon and keep repeating the job until you get the next item .. same thing for the third .. after that go to bangkok and get a passport and u’re done
Yes. You will need to do that job until the elephant icon disappears once you have the needed item. It took me over 10 tries after I had even completed the job fully.
Sounds like it’ll take forever… I think I’m going to see if I can cough up the $FV needed.
*Update* There is a special promotion of farmville today where when you sign up to be a fan of bing, you get 3 free farm cash.
Thanks for the heads up David
I just got to level 18 and all of the items to Bangkok were given to me so I could get the harvester! It definitely saved a lot of time of searching for all of those items!
